Radically Open DBT
helping those with overcontrolled
temperaments and coping styles
Yes, it is possible to have too much of a good thing! The very traits that make you detail-oriented, polite, organized, and successful can also cause great pain! RO-DBT addresses those stuck points to get you engaged in a life worth sharing.
RO-DBT significantly differs from other treatment approaches, most notably by encouraging clients to “do” their way out of things. It’s about shifting thinking patterns and increasing effective social signaling in order to decrease emotional loneliness. Dare I say it’s actually FUN!!
Ok maybe too much enthusiasm there…ahem. Rather than me explain it, I’ll let the treatment founder, Dr. Tom Lynch explain it.
Goals of RO-DBT
Radically Open DBT (RODBT) defines psychological health as:
1. Receptivity and Openness to new and disconfirming feedback in order to learn.
2. Flexible Control in order to adapt to changing environmental demands.
3. Intimacy and Connectedness with at least one other peson.
“Thus more or less, according to this definition a well-adjusted person is able to not only be more open to disconfirming feedback but to also modify their behavior to be more effective in a manner that accounts for the needs of others.”—Lynch, 2018
Individual
Therapy
Sessions in RO-DBT are structured and flexible. Weekly sessions can consist of reviewing a diary card, conducting chain and solution analysis, psychoeducation, and processing stuck points through self-enquiry.
RO-DBT is a skills based modality, but there is room to go beyond the surface.
Skills
Class
Each week, those in RO-DBT treatment will engage in a skills class. The 30 week curriculum encourages members to reshape their thinking and social signaling in order to embody radical openness.

2020 rodbt clinican scholar alumni:
I have attended two intensive trainings under the treatment founder. As a former member of the RO Clinician Scholars Program, I received additional training and supervision. I am consistently referring to my manual and processing techniques with my colleagues who have completed RODBT Intensive Trainings.
